Web 2.0 Awards List

I was checking out my Tracking Log and I discovered that many of the sites I explored but did not really post a blog on that endeavour. Since my tracking log needs a permalink I decided to add this log after completion.

Fait Accompli - 23 Things Finished

I would like to end my safari of 23 Things with a video from youtube of one of my favorite thinkers/authors of America. Gore Vidal- Think!
My husband and I had the wonderful opportunity to meet Mr. Vidal in Ravello, many, many years ago - I think sometimes in another lifetime. I remember being absolutely thrilled during that meeting. Mr. Vidal lives in Ravello, South Italy, along the Amalfi Coast. One of the most beautiful part of the world. (I hope it is still pristine and beautiful now, as it was in the 70's.)
The learning journey will continue unceasing...

Thing 23 The End

Enjoyed the little safari through the Techno World. Got a birds eye view of what is happening in the world of Hi-Tech. Most of it is very repetitive - a new and improved version of something old, which to be perfectly frank is neither new and definitely not Improved version- more like complicated version of something old and simple. [But that is my opinion]

Before I end with a good video, I will briefly explore Project Gutenberg and see what's out there in downloadable audios.

Would like to end with a good video

Podcasts

August 7, 2007

Podcasts: http://www.lansing.lib.il.us/podcast.htm This is a very informative site for podcasts. And if I had a small business company, I would certainly use this media of information. Listening to information is far better than going through pages and pages of website links.

In brief: What is a podcast?
Average Joe answer:The term comes from combining “iPod” and “broadcast.” An easy way to understand it is audio on demand. You listen when it’s convenient for you. Early bird or night owl, podcasting can fit your schedule!
Techie answer: Audio content delivered via RSS. We did this in June, However was unable to bring RSS to my blog.

Online Productivity

Here are some Online productivity sites that I explored. Since I was 'out' for 3 weeks in July - I have decided to combine 2 weeks work in one week. Hopefully, I should be able to finish 23 Things by the end of this week. I personally am a fast learner so it would be no strain. Many of the Things are more or less familiar, only now I am exploring in greater detail.

Online word processing provides you with ways to manage and write documents without a download - great for collaboration or those using multiple computers.
Google Docs - A way to create your documents and share them too.
Zoho Writer - Serious competition to Google Docs. There are some options present that Google Docs lacks and of course vice-versa.
ThinkFree - Think Microsoft Office, except this is the online equivalent.
Buzzword - A recently discovered service that is still in private beta. It has many offerings and a slick interface to boot! (Private Beta)

Used google docs to send a document to my cousin in India. I am not sure how different it can be from email message. Maybe later, it will come to me.

Wikis

August 6 - Thing 16.
Wikis is not new to me. I have always enjoyed reading wikiopedia and gleaned many an interesting information, even on subjects I was totally familiar with. I think, it is a wonderful tool, where anyone can add their nugget of information and pass it on to the world in general. As always, there is always a caveat and one must use the tool with caution.

I am pretty much familiar with many of the 'things' mentions on 23 things and I have not really labelled each as thing 1, 2 etc. Wiki I believe is Thing 16.

Thing 17: I did the Wiki exercise and thought it was interesting. it could be a valuable tool. Our strategic plan notes are on a wiki and we are supposed to read and make comments. It seems though that things get erased by editors, in wiki. (I was not aware of that) so it would be pointless adding your comments.
