NEW YORK (Reuters) - Nonprofit emissions advisers The Climate Group said on Tuesday that Google Inc. has joined its organization to cut or offset all of its greenhouse emissions by 2008.
The Climate Group will partner with Web search leader Google to support its plans for greater energy efficiency and renewable energy, it said. Emissions that cannot be eliminated directly will be "offset" by investments in projects such as clean energy.
"Google's commitment to invest in environmental innovation, combined with their 'worldwide' reach -- will significantly help promote and accelerate international action on climate change," Steve Howard, chief executive of The Climate Group, said in a release.
